Fun is to be had, but rules help control the fun! Breeding protocols have been updated, please check below!
General Things to Note
First, and foremost, the Mauaati is a closed breed, and discoveries are NOT free to create. Imports are made by
Reldia,
Copperhaven,
Astralseed and
Cariannarz on the official discovery lineart only. The only way to get a Mauaati is to win one via group auctions/contests, or by breeding, they are not available on a commission or request basis.
You do not have to be an existing member of the group, or the Farpg, to join in with any group activities, or to get a Mauaati. We do ask, however, that if you're not already a member of the group, you MUST join when you get your first Mauaati cat, so that you can register and join in.
Bullying of other members and drama will not be tolerated in the group, so if you must be involved with it, don't bring it here.
About the Breed
Mauaati cats are fairly large and muscular, but slender. They have short, sleek coats, but may be fluffier around the face, feet and tail if desired. They are closer to the size of a domestic cat than a wild big cat, perhaps around the same size as a large Savannah, or a medium-sized Serval, but closer to the shape of a Siamese and a Bengal. They stand, on average, at 24" tall, though have been known to be anywhere from 20" - 30", though it is very rare to see a female larger than 26".
Their faces are quite pointed, and their ears are large and open, though rounded at the top. Their tails are fairly thick, and long. The breed was based originally on
Reldia's cat, Ambrose, who you can see here:

Your Mauaati's whiskers are generally the same colour as its cheeks where the whiskers protrude from, unless you have a mutation cat, in which case, the whiskers may be the same colour as the mutation itself.
Mauaati paw pads are the same colour as the inside of the cat's ears and/or nose.
Registration
Once you have won your Mauaati cat, or gotten your new kitten, you must register him or her with the group. You have
one calendar month to do this.
To register your cat, draw a
full body reference image for it within the allowed time, and submit the reference image to the group gallery, in the 'Reference Sheets' folder, and we can get your beautiful new Mauaati registered for you, and ready to join in the fun!
Please include the cat's
ID number and name in the
title of their reference sheet, and include all the information given on the original discovery sheet, as well as any necessary additions. For kittens, use this template, and make any necessary changes (such as the given colour, genotype, and including the parents in the lineage, etc)

Breedings
All breeding rules and processes have been UPDATED, please see below for new breeding guidelines and what to expect when you breed your Mauaati
Breeding Mauaati cats is simple - all you need is a male and a female of breeding age, essentially! Inbreeding is not allowed in any form, and you also may not outcross to other breeds. Only unrelated Mauaati x Mauaati breedings will be accepted.
The usual way to get yourself some breeding slots is to contact the owners of the potential sire and dam you would like to breed, and come to some agreement. If the cat's reference image states that breedings are closed, please be courteous to the owner and not request a breeding slot.
Once an agreement has been made, the owners of the sire and dam must add your name to their cats' breeding slot list, marked in some way as 'useable' or 'not useable'. If the slot is not marked clearly as 'useable', the breeding will not be able to take place.
Once the slots are marked as useable, send a note to the group titled Breeding, and include links to the references of the sire and dam. We will then provide you with
between one and six genders, colours and genotypes, which will be the litter from the cats.
We'll always try to give different genotypes for the kittens, but in some cases, only one may be available, in which case you will only be given one (for example, two black cats that don't carry dilute or chocolate genes will only produce black kittens, and so you may get a litter of five plain black kittens from such a breeding). Each gender, colour and genotype given is for that single kitten, and these are not changeable. For example, you may get "Kitten 1" who is a red male, and "Kitten 2" who is a blue tortie female. We'll never give you a litter of all boys or all girls though, there will always be at least one kitten of each gender. In litters of only one kitten, it will be "ungendered" for you to choose.
All genotypes and genders are based on an RNG system, so its purely down to chance what you get. As well as rolling for base colours, we also roll for chimera with every breeding - this is very rare (1 in 500), but can happen
Kittens may be sold in their undesigned state (ie, the genos can be sold) and the group has a folder for you to advertise these. You may also design the kittens first and then sell them, but please be aware that the new owner is under no obligation within group rules to keep your design and would be welcome to redesign their chosen kitten.
It is not, nor will it ever be, in official group rules for 'parent slots' to be the norm - if somebody had to pay for a breeding slot with your cat, then that is the payment, and you in turn should be expected to pay for a breeding slot to one of the kittens rather than getting a free litter out of it. Any squabbles over parent slots or 'kittens-for-payment' will need to be sorted out privately, as the group will not intervene.
If you are breeding mutations, you will only ever get
one kitten in the litter.
If you are wanting to breed a
dominant mutation kitten, please send a note to the group first so we can keep track of mutation numbers. This does not mean in any way we won't allow you to do it - it's purely for us to keep a record, so don't worry!
The minimum breeding age for Mauaati cats is
2 years old and member-bred kittens must have reached this age (by gaining at least 10 Bastaa Points) before being allowed to breed. All Foundation (Starter) cats are 2 years old at the time you get them, and you may age them how you like.
If you do not want your Mauaati to be bred from, you may neuter them. To do this, you must send a note to the group letting us know that the cat is to be neutered, and our records will be updated. Please be
sure before doing this, because it cannot be undone, and if the cat is ever sold and reregistered with someone else, they may not have the cat returned to its entire state - when it's neutered, it's neutered!
Note: All breedings MUST be included on your cat's reference sheet.
Love Your Mauaati! (Reclaiming Rules)
Your cat needs love, attention and affection. Any Mauaati cats or kittens who are left unregistered within the allowed timeframe, or are neglected for 6 months after initial registration, or neglected for 1 year after any subsequent activity post registration, may be removed from your care without warning, and reclaimed by the group so they may be adopted again at a later stage by someone who will love them.
If you have any problem that may mean you will not be able to get your cat or kitten registered in time, you must
note the group to let us know that you need more time. In these cases, you may be given an extra 10 days to register your Mauaati, after which he/she will be reclaimed if still left unregistered.
Kittens left unregistered and reclaimed by the group will either be given to the owner of one of the parents (who will be contacted), or, if the owner of the parents is the owner of the kitten, then the kitten will be put up for adoption. If unadopted within the given timeframe at time of auction, the kitten will cease to exist, and the sire & dam will NOT get their breeding slots back.
Any questions, concerns, etc... let us know!
